Lucky Jim

LUCKY JIM has known several incarnations since Kingsley Amis's novel was first published in 1954. It was an immediate best seller in many countries and languages, has been adapted for radio, became a successful film, is required reading as part of the curricula in several universities and a television adaptation is scheduled for some time this year.

Julian More and Monty became interested in the possibility of turning Lucky Jim into a stage musical after seeing a wonderful production of their musical, Irma La Douce by director John Doyle. All three decided they woud like to do another project together. So after much searching for a suitable subject, Lucky Jim The Musical was born.

The breakdown of the novel into basic stage form was created by John, Julian and Monty. When they were all satisfied, Julian and Monty adapted the book (libretto) together. Then they tacked the songs with Julian writing the lyrics and Monty the music. The outcome is a funny, touching stage show that owes much to Kingsley Amis but is most definitely an entity in itself.
